Ishant: My strength is the bounce and pace and I stuck to that plan. Bhuvneshwar and Umesh Yadavbowled well up front. I had to bowl in the right areas and execute my plans. The conditions were favourable for me. In my previous tour, the wickets were flat and I had no assistance.

MS Dhoni: This seems to be a well-written script. It was a good toss to win. The bowlers set the game up nicely. It was unfortunate for Sri Lanka that they lost Dilshan to injury. The spinners bowled well in the middle overs. It is always important to have good bowlers in the side. If we have good bowlers that exploit the conditions, the opposition thinks twice to give us helpful wickets. There are some areas of improvement and we hope to address them. The ball was still doing something and Bhuvneshwar had bowled for 8-9 overs. There was a choice between me and Kohli as we had to keep some bowlers in the death overs. With Karthik around, I decided to bowl and we had to keep Ashwin at the death as there were some left handers in the team. Raina is excellent in any position and it helps the captain immensely. England are a very good side and in this tournament, any side can be on top on the given day.
Mathews: The toss was crucial. The wicket was two paced and it was assisting the pacers. We did not play well and the batsmen failed to respond. Credit to India for bowling very well. All the younger players need to take responsibility. Thisara Perera was bowling well and we wanted some depth in the batting. The character that we displayed after the first game was commendable. |
