Indian pacer Umesh Yadav claimed all three wickets to fall on Day Three of the pink-ball Test at Eden Gardens in Kolkata as India clinched the series against Bangladesh 2-0. Yadav finished with figures of 5 for 53 as Bangladesh were cleaned up for 195. Mushfiqur Rahim top-scored with 74 but could not stop India from registering victory by an innings and 46 runs. This was India’s fourth successive victory by an innings, a new world record.

The triumph was India’s 7th consecutive Test win under Virat Kohli’s captaincy, a new record. With it, Kohli overtook MS Dhoni’s captaincy record of six consecutive wins. The victory was also India’s 12th successive series win at home. They had gone past Australia’s record of 10 after thrashing South Africa 3-0. Kohli also earned his 11th innings win, moving further away from Dhoni who had 9. The Indian captain also registered his 33rd Test win going past Allan Border’s 32 victories as leader.

Speaking after yet another win, Kohli could not stop lavishing praise on his fast bowlers, who picked up all Bangladesh wickets to fall in the match. “If you feel fast bowlers are not in the game then you are already into a negative mindset. With the way these guys are bowling now, they can pick up wickets on any surface at home or away. Even the spinners, if they play away from home, they should have the belief that they can take a fifer. So I think it’s all about the mindset you walk in with.

“If you have a set template saying I might not be bowling that much in the game, then your body language is such. These guys are very hungry and I feel we are in the right kind of space to capitalise on opportunities and everyone is enjoying playing in this team. That’s the standout feature about us,” Kohli said while speaking about the win.

The skipper also took the opportunity to praise Sourav Ganguly who is credited as the captain to brought aggression and the give it back attitude to Indian cricket. “Test cricket is a mental battle, we all know that. I mean in the past nobody was trying to injure or hurt the batsman. It was all about getting into their heads and getting them out which used to happen, but now we have learnt to stand up and give it back.

“It all started with Dada’s team and we are just carrying it forward. The bowling group now is fearless and they believe in themselves playing against any batsman. We are reaping the rewards for all the hard work we put in the last 3-4 years,” Kohli went on to add.

Kohli himself made a significant contribution in the game with his 136. Ishant Sharma and Yadav finished the match with nine and eight wickets respectively.
