West Indian lose 8 wickets for just 53 runs on Saturday, Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir have negotiated the three tricky overs before the lunch break to reach 16 for no loss

After taking the last eight West Indian wickets for just 53 runs on Saturday, VirenderSehwag and GautamGambhir have negotiated the three tricky overs before the lunch break to reach 16 for no loss, needing 227 more runs in a minimum of 61 overs.

West Indies reached 81 for two in their second innings, leading by 189 runs, at stumps on the fourth day of the third cricket Test against India at the Wankhede Stadium here Friday.

KraiggBrathwaite (34) and Darren Bravo (27) were at the crease. PragyanOjha took both the wickets in the second innings.

India were all out for 482 in the first innings, conceding a lead of 108 runs. RavichandranAshwin scored his maiden century (103).

RavichandranAshwin stole SachinTendulkar's thunder on day four of the final Test with his maiden century that helped India to 482, after which West Indies increased their lead to 189, reaching 81 for 2 in their second innings at stumps.

India were briefly facing the possibility of a humiliating follow-on on the flattest of tracks after the West Indies' quicks struck three times with the second new ball, but the chances of that receded as ViratKohli and R Ashwin forged a steadying seventh-wicket stand on the fourth morning of the third Test.

It was an anti-climactic session for the sell-out crowd at the Wankhede Stadium that came to see their favourite son get to a historic century, only for SachinTendulkar to be dismissed on 94, after a series of sumptuous strokes raised hopes of him finally ending a seemingly interminable wait for the100th hundred.

Tendulkar was unbeaten on 67 when bad light halted play for the day with India on 281 for 3 - still 309 runs short of West Indies' 590. Tendulkar and VVSLaxman, on 32, will resume play at the crease Friday morning. Sachin enjoyed one let-off during his innings, with Carlton Baugh failing to hold onto a thin edge when the batsman was on 58, off DevendraBishoo the frustrated bowler.

RahulDravid became the second player to reach 13,000 Test runs as he guided India's solid response with a half-century after West Indies were finally bowled out for 590 early on the third morning. GautamGambhir also made a fifty, but it is now nearly two years since his last Test ton.

West Indies didn't declare overnight, allowing their final pair to bat on, and after 15 minutes of entertaining tail-ender swings, DevendraBishoo was bowled by offspinner R Ashwin, who completed his second five-wicket haul in his debut series.

Darren Bravo scored 166 as the West Indies piled up a mammoth 575 for nine at stumps on the second day of the third cricket Test against India at the Wankhede Stadium here Wednesday.

Kieran Powell made 81, Marlon Samuels 61 and Kirk Edwards 86.

Fidel Edwards (7) and DevendraBishoo (2) were at the crease.

Off-spinner RavichandranAshwin took four wickets and debutant fast bowler Varun Aaron got three.

Darren Bravo made his third century in four Tests as West Indies' young batting line-up continued to make light of the absence of their most experienced batsman, ShivnarineChanderpaul, and hurt India on the second morning at the Wankhede. Ishant Sharma gave India their lone success by removing Kirk Edwards, but the new batsman Kieran Powell kept the runs coming with an array of drives down the ground.

The first session of the second day was the most productive yet for West Indies, yielding 111 runs as their batsmen went for their shots. The tone was set by Bravo, who caressed the first two deliveries of the session between the bowler and mid-off for four.

Half-centuries by the top four batsmen helped West Indies finish the opening day of the third and final Test against India at a solid 267/2 at the Wankhede Stadium here on Tuesday.

After the 137-run opening partnership between Adrian Barath (62) and KraiggBrathwaite (68), Kirk Edwards (65) and Daren Bravo (57) weaved an unfinished 117-run stand for the third wicket.

R Ashwin was the pick of the Indian bowlers, picking both the wickets that fell on the first day.

The scorecard could have read a little different had VVSLaxman and RahulDravid, the two safest catchers in the Indian line-up, not dropped sitters off Brathwaite and Bravo respectively.

West Indies captain Darren Sammy won the toss and opted to bat against India in the third and the final Test of the series at the Wankhede stadium here Tuesday.

India made two changes with ViratKohli in place of axed Yuvraj Singh while UmeshYadav made way for debutantVarun Aaron. West Indies' experienced batsman ShivnarineChanderpaul has been ruled out with a calf muscle and has been replaced with Kieran Powell.
