A fabulous 13th ODI century from Skipper AB de Villiers helped South Africa win the opening ODI at Wellington against the Black Caps. The visitors won the First ODI at the Westpac Stadium in Wellington by 6 wickets with 28 balls to spare. SA with this lead the 3-match series 1-0. Chasing a target of 254, South Africa were on the backfoot at 35 for 3 inside 10 overs. The match had opened up with the Kiwis putting the pressure on the visitors with some nice seam and swing bowling. South Africa pushed on the backfoot steadied its innings thanks to a solid 90-run stand between JP Duminy (46 from 74 balls with 2 fours) and AB de Villiers.

AB de VilliersThe South African Skipper AB de Villiers stayed unbeaten on 106 from 106 balls striking 3 fours and 4 sixes. He was well supported by the 27-year-old Faf du Plessis who smashed an unbeaten 66 from 49 balls with 9 fours and a six in an unbroken match-winning stand of 129 runs. AB de Villiers got the Man of the Match award.
