In the first match of the double header on Friday, Kings XI Punjab chased down a mammoth 206 with ease, making it the third highest chase in IPL history. Batting first, Chennai Super Kings posted 205 for 4 with Brendon McCullum smashing 66 from 43 with 6 fours and 3 sixes and Dwayne Smith blasting 67 from 45 (4 fours, 5 sixes). Punjab, however, easily chased down the target in 18.5 overs. Glenn Maxwell hit 15 fours and 2 sixes in his 43-ball 95. David Miller, on the other hand, remained unbeaten on 54 from 37 balls (3 fours and 3 sixes). Here’s a look at the other top chases in IPL history.


217/7: Rajasthan Royals against Deccan Chargers

Rajasthan hold the record for the highest ever chase in the IPL. They were chasing 215 to win a match against Deccan Chargers at Hyderabad on April 24, 2008 at Uppal. Deccan smashed 214 for 15 batting first, build on Andrew Symonds’ unbeaten 117 from 53 balls, an innings which featured 11 fours and 7 sixes. Rajasthan chased down the total courtesy some great all-round contributions with the bat. Graeme Smith made 71 in 45 balls, and Yusuf Pathan blasted 61 in 28 balls with 4 fours and 6 sixes. Mohammad Kaif made 34 in 16 and Shane Warne remained unbeaten on 22 from 9 (2 fours, 2 sixes).


208/8: Chennai Super Kings vs Royal Challengers Bangalore

CSK chased down the massive score in a match against RCB at Chennai on April 12, 2012. RCB raced to 205 for 8 with their top three firing – Chris Gayle (68 from 35 – 2 fours, 6 sixes), Virat Kohli (57 from 46 -- 5 fours, 2 sixes), and Mayank Agarwal (45 from 26 – 5 fours, 3 sixes). Chennai chased down the target in the last over. Faf du Plessis set up things with 71 from 46 (5 fours, 4 sixes), MS Dhoni kept them afloat with 40 from 24 before Albie Morkel (28 from 7, 2 fours, 3 sixes) swung the game Chennai’s way.

204/2 Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Kings XI Punjab

RCB took on Punjab in this match at Bangalore on March 16, 2010. Punjab made 203 for 3 batting first – Ravi Bopara smashed 77 from 50 (9 fours, 2 sixes) and Manvinder Bisla blasted 75 from 51 (7 fours, 4 sixes). In reply Jacques Kallis starred with an unbeaten 89 from 55 balls (8 fours and 5 sixes) while Robin Uthappa thrashed the bowlers for 51 from 21 deliveries (4 fours, 4 sixes) as Bangalore romped home by 8 wickets.

Mahela Jayawardene, however, outdid Gayle’s knock. He caressed his way to 110 from 59 balls – 14 fours and 3 sixes). Punjab got home by eight wickets with 10 balls to spare.
