West Indies crushed New Zealand by 56 runs in the first T20I at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground, Lauderhill (Florida, USA). New Zealand had a terrible day in the field as three of its players – Ross Taylor, Jacob Oram and Ronnie Hira, all were laid low with injuries.

West Indies crushed New Zealand by 56 runs in the first T20I at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground, Lauderhill (Florida, USA). New Zealand had a terrible day in the field as three of its players – Ross Taylor, Jacob Oram and Ronnie Hira, all were laid low with injuries. The three players are unlikely to play in the second and final T20I which is less than 24 hours at this same venue.

Bowling first after winning the toss, the Black Caps were hammered by unbeaten knocks from Chris Gayle (85* from 52 balls with 7 fours and 5 sixes) and Kieron Pollard (63* from 29 balls with 5 fours and 5 sixes). The West Indies piled up an imposing total of 209 for 2 in 20 overs which batted the Kiwis out of the contest.

Chris GayleDuring the West Indian innings, Skipper Ross Taylor hurt his shoulder, Jacob Oram damaged his knee and left-arm-spinner Ronnie Irani dislocated his finger when Gayle smashed one back to him fiercely.

New Zealand in their run chase surrendered with 153 all out in 18.3 overs. Skipper Ross Taylor had retired hurt after scoring 10 as his shoulder was starting to pain severely while Ronnie Hira didn’t come out to bat having dislocated his finger while bowling. The Kiwis were never in the contest and the top score of their innings was just 32 9from 31 balls) coming in from opener Rob Nicol. For the Windies, Sunil Narine strangled the Black Caps with his 3 for 34 in 4 overs. Chris Gayle got the Player of the Match award for his powerful knock.
