Both West Indies and Bangladesh are struggling for survival in the T20 World Cup 2021, having lost their first two matches in the Super 12 round. The defending champions were abysmal in their tournament opener against England. The entire team crumbled to 55 all out. And although West Indies claimed four wickets in response, it was still a hugely forgettable effort.
Against South Africa, the Windies fared slightly better. But it was nowhere near good enough for them to register a victory. 143 for 8 was all they managed batting first, despite a half-century from Evin Lewis. The middle and lower-order struggled again, with Lendl Simmons consuming 35 balls for his 16. South Africa chased down the target with ease
Bangladesh’s Super 12 campaign has been disappointing as well. They batted impressively against Sri Lanka to post 171 on the board as Naim Sheikh and Mushfiqur Rahim smashed half-centuries. However, their bowlers had no answer to Charith Asalanka and Bhanuka Rajapaksa as Sri Lanka cruised to victory in the chase. England also exposed weaknesses in their batting, holding them to 124 for 9 and then crossing the target with a comprehensive margin of eight wickets.
Both West Indies and Bangladesh will have to find a way to end their losing streak on Friday.
