Australia finally ended their wait to win the T20 World Cup when they defeated New Zealand in the final of the 2021 tournament in Dubai. It was their first major success in limited-overs action since they won the Cricket World Cup in 2015

It was an impressive campaign from Australia in the UAE as they lost just one game in the competition. Their sole defeat came against England in the group stage. They produced their best two performances in the knockout matches, with excellent wins over Pakistan and New Zealand.

In the final, they made easy work of chasing down the target of 173 set by the Kiwis. They got there with seven balls to spare and only lost two wickets during that innings. Mitchell Marsh produced an excellent 73 not-out and was named the Player of the Match.

Australia had three players in the ICC Team of the Tournament. David Warner was one of those. The man who made his T20 international debut in 2009 rolled back the years with the bat. The 36-year-old finished with 289 runs in the competition; only Pakistan’s Babar Azam scored more.

Bowlers Adam Zampa and Josh Hazelwood both were rewarded in the ICC’s leading line-up for their great work with the ball. They picked up 24 wickets between them and played a huge role in helping their country lift the trophy for the first time.

Australia will be hoping they can defend their trophy when the next edition of the T20 World Cup comes around in 2022. They are set to host the tournament so they will have the home advantage. Given how well they played in Dubai in this format of the game, they are likely to be popular in the betting to prevail again. At the time of writing, they are 10/3 in the bookmaker sites in Australia for the event.

Big Events Coming Up For Australia

It's not just at next year’s T20 World Cup that cricket punters will be interested in backing Australia; this latest team could be set for success in all formats of the sport. They are set to host England in the Ashes at the back end of this year and are warm favourites to defend the urn they brought back from England in 2019.

Head coach Justin Langer will also be hoping his team can win the Cricket World Cup in 2023. His white-ball cricketers will be full of confidence, and for many of them, this will be their last chance to play in a 50-overs World Cup.

The Australian cricket team have been through some tough periods over the last few years. They now look over those issues and their future remains bright with this strong group of players who have proved they are good enough to rule the world.
