England thrashed Pakistan 4-1 in the recently concluded one-day series. Cricwaves takes a look at the top performers in the series.

Sarfraz Ahmed: In a series dominated by England, the Pakistan wicket-keeper batsman was the top run-getter. He finished the series with exactly 300 runs from five innings at an average of 60 with one hundred and two fifties, at an impressive strike rate of close to 92. Ahmed kicked off the series with 55 at Southampton, made a hundred in a losing cause at Lord’s, and ended it with a match-winning 90 at Cardiff. He has by far been England’s best batsman in recent times, even as the rest have struggled.

Joe Root: The England bat just cannot seem to do much wrong with the bat at the moment. He made 274 runs in the series with three fifties at a healthy average of 54.80 and at a strike rate of 91. He got three consecutive half-centuries in the first three matches, scoring 61, 89 and 85 before finishing the series with a couple of low scores. If anything, he would disappointed at having missed out on a hundred.

Alex Hales: The opener made only one score of note in the series, but it was a record-breaking one. In the Nottingham ODI, when England smashed the world record score by making 444, Hales also broke the individual record for the highest score by an English batsman, blasting 171. The innings helped Hales ended the series with an acceptable tally of 223 runs at an average of 44.60, and a whirlwind strike rate of 117.98.

Ben Stokes: The all-rounder returned from injury, primarily as a batsman, and proved that he can throw his weight around that way as well. In four innings, he scored two fifties, finishing with 201 runs at an average of 67 and a strike rate of 102.55. He made 69 at Leeds in a tense game, and finished off the series with 75 at Cardiff even as England went down in the match.

Chris Woakes: Yet again, the medium pacer was in his elements. In four games, he picked up 9 wickets at an average of 19.22, a strike rate of 21.6 and an economy rate of 5.32. His best of 4 for 41 came in high-scoring Nottingham ODI. He also claimed 3 for 42 at Lord’s as England claimed another win.

Adil Rashid: The leggie was impressive with eight wickets from four games at an average of 27.75, an economy rate of 5.69 and a strike rate of 29.2. His best of 3 for 47 came in the final match while he was among the wickets in the other games too.
