Titans pulled off a narrow win by 4 runs over Brisbane Heat in a low-scoring contest at Mohali. Brisbane Heat for the second time in a row showed how weak their batting line-up was as they failed to chase down a modest target of 124. Tall fast bowler Marchant de Lange, who struggled against Chennai Super Kings with his radar, made a tremendous comeback to take the Man of the Match award. De Lange took 3 for 13 in his 4 overs to help the Titans to bowl out Brisbane Heat for 119.

Brisbane Heat was pegged back quite early in their run chase at 24 for 3 in 4.5 overs. Rowan Richards, the left-arm quick provided the first wicket when Joe Burns miscued a slog to mid on. Marchant de Lange took the next two wickets having Peter Forrest flicking a short ball to squareleg and having Ben Cutting top edge an upper cut to thirdman.

There was a 44-run stand for the 4th wicket between Skipper James Hopes and Daniel Christian which steadied things for Brisbane. However, Christian got bowled trying to heave a full ball from Richards leaving his team at 68 for 4 in the 14th over. Hopes got out soon after that holing out to long off to a Roelof van der Merwe delivery. The Brisbane Heat Skipper scored 37 from 44 balls and his exit also ensured a victory for Titans. Left-handed Chris Sabburg provided a ray of hope in the end but his run out in the final over crashed all the chances of a victory for Brisbane Heat.

Early on, Titans asked to bat first were 70 for 1 in the 10th over before they had a big collapse. Skipper Henry Davids with 39 (from 31 balls) and Heino Kuhn with 31 (from 27 balls) were going along nicely but got out in the space of six balls. Titans folded to 123 all out after that in 18.5 overs. The biggest breakthrough that Brisbane Heat had was the run out of AB de Villiers (28 from 19 balls) following his mix-up with Farhaan Behardien.

Fast bowler Matthew Gale, who didn’t play in the first game of Brisbane Heat, went onto take three wickets in the penultimate over to stop Titans from getting to a respectable total. Gale finished the innings with dream figures of 2.5-0-10-4.

Toss and Teams: Brisbane Heat have won the toss and elected to bowl first. No overs have been lost despite the 45-miunte delay. The pitch has some moisture because of the rain, so the ball will move around off it.

Rain Update: After yesterday’s double wash out at Ahmedabad, it is the turn of Mohali for rain to upset the plans of the CLT20 2013 organizers. The Group B Match between Brisbane Heat and Titans will be delayed because of the rain. The good news is that the rain has eased off but there will be plenty of work to be done by the groundstaff before the game can get underway.
