Kings XI Punjab’s IPL 2017 campaign started with a six-wicket win over Rising Pune Supergiant at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore on Saturday.

Kings skipper Glenn Maxwell starred with a typical 20-ball 44 as his team chased down Pune's score of 163 for six with an over to spare. RPS had beaten Mumbai Indians in their first match, but Steve Smith’s side could not repeat the performance.

Manan Vohra (14) and Hashim Amla (28) got Punjab off to a flyer. And, after Vohra left, Wriddhiman Saha too came in and took on the bowlers as Punjab made 49 runs in 5 overs.

Imran Tahir once again came good with 2/29 like sending back Saha and Axar Patel (24). Amla then was taken by Rahul Chahar and Pune were back in the game.

Maxwell and David Miller (30 not out), however, ensured there were no further hiccups. Maxwell hit two fours and four sixes in his quick-fire innings of 44 not out.

Miller found the going slightly tough, but hung on to ensure Punjab won the game by six wickets.

Earlier, Pune’s top order crumbled as they found themselves at 49 for three in the ninth over, Ben Stokes (50 off 32 balls) then led the fight back for Pune. Manoj Tiwary chipped in with 40 off 23.

Tiwary and Daniel Christian, combined to take on Mohit and Sandeep Sharma and took 30 off the last 12 balls. Steven Smith made 26, but he mistimed one to be caught at deep square leg, and that was a big blow for Pune.
