Fractured finger ends Kumar Sangakkara’s Series

Sri Lanka received a huge blow during the 3rd ODI at Colombo when its in-form batsman Kumar Sangakkara sustained a finger injury. Sangakkara during the course of his knock of 73 was hit on the knuckles while ducking under a short and rising delivery from speedster Ashok Dinda.

Sri Lanka received a huge blow during the 3rd ODI at Colombo when its in-form batsman Kumar Sangakkara sustained a finger injury. Sangakkara during the course of his knock of 73 was hit on the knuckles while ducking under a short and rising delivery from speedster Ashok Dinda.

Sangakkara was on 24 when he took a blow on the finger in the 15th over and yet he went onto score 49 more runs. The Sri Lankan star batsman didn’t turn up with the wicket keeping gloves in the Indian innings. Sangakkara was replaced with Dinesh Chandimal behind the stumps in the second half of the 3rd ODI which Sri Lanka went onto lose.

Kumar SangakkaraDuring the final stages of the match, news came in that Sangakkara was going to be sidelined with a hair-line fracture on one of his right hand fingers. Sangakkara as a result will be out of action for a minimum of 4-6 weeks which means that not only will he miss the remaining 2 ODIs against India but also is likely to miss the inaugural Sri Lankan Premier League. The T20 League is slated to begin on August 11. Sangakkara was named as the Captain of the Kandurata Warriors.

The Sri Lankan Selectors are yet to name a replacement for Sangakkara. The fourth ODI will be played on the 31st at Colombo. This is now the second injury blow for Sri Lanka in the Series after losing Nuwan Kulasekara with a groin strain in the 1st ODI.
