Chennai Super Kings (CSK) beat Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 8 runs in match number 24 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Monday, April 17. Sent into bat after losing the toss, CSK scored 226/6 in their 20 overs. RCB responded with 218/8

Chennai lost Ruturaj Gaikwad early as he was sent back by Mohammed Siraj for 3. But Devon Conway (83 off 45) and Ajinkya Rahane (37 off 20) added 74 runs for the second wicket for CSK. The stand ended when Rahane was trapped lbw by a googly from Wanindu Hasaranga.

Conway and Shivam Dube (52 off 27) then added 80 runs for the third wicket. While the Kiwi struck six fours and as many sixes, Dube slammed two fours and five sixes. For RCB, six bowlers claimed one wicket each. Siraj 1/30 was the most economical of all bowlers.

Chasing 227, RCB lost Virat Kohli for 6 as he was bowled by Akash Singh. Mahipal Lomror was dismissed by Tushar Deshpande for a duck. However, Faf du Plessis (62 off 33) and Glenn Maxwell (76 off 36) featured in a brilliant third-wicket stand of 126. Du Plessis hit five fours and four sixes, while Maxwell struck three fours and eight maximums.

After their dismissals, Dinesh Karthik (28 off 14) gave RCB hope, but he too fell to Tushar Deshpande (3/45). In the end, Bangalore fell short as the lower order could not find the big hits. Shahbaz Ahmed scored 12 off 10, Suyash Prabhudessai 19 off 11 and Wayne Parnell 2 off 5.

Speaking after being named Player of the Match, Conway said, “Very happy with the way things went tonight. I didn't quite hit the straps in the first few games. Good win for us as a group. My recipe is quite simple - try and play good cricket shots. When I'm under pressure, just try and react and take options that are best for me.

“I don't want be too predictable. Just using my crease to try and put bowlers off their lengths. Second year playing for CSK, it's been special. The support is phenomenal, they are loyal as well. Makes it a lot better when you have MS Dhoni in your team too. We are really grateful,” he added.
