England’s highest total in a one-day match against Sri Lanka is 333/9 at Taunton on June 11, 1983. This was a 60-overs contest.
Sri Lanka’s highest total in a one-day match against England is 324/2 at Leeds on July 1, 2006.
Lowest team totals
The lowest total by England against Sri Lanka is 88 at Dambulla on November 18, 2003. Incredibly, England faced 46.1 overs, but managed a run-rate of under 2.
The lowest total by Sri Lanka against England is 99 at Perth on January 29, 1999. Lanka were cleaned up in 33.3 overs during the clash.
Mahela Jayawardene of Sri Lanka has scored the most runs in ODI contests between England and Sri Lanka. In 35 matches, Jayawardene has scored 1242 runs at an average of 43 with five hundreds and five fifties. He has maintained an impressive strike rate of 85.5 during these matches.
For England, Marcus Trescothick holds the record in spite of having quit international cricket back in 2006. In 17 matches, he managed to garner 697 runs at an impressive average of 41 with one hundred and four fifties. His strike rate is similar to that of Jayawardene’s -- 86.
Highest individual scores
Sanath Jayasuriya’s 159 from 99 is the highest individual score in England-Lanka clashes. He registered this at Leeds on July 1, 2006.
For England, the record stands in the name of David Gower. He made 130 from 120 balls at Taunton on June 11, 1983.
Jayawardene has scored five hundreds in England-Lanka clashes, Jayasuriya has four to his name while Upul Tharanga has notched up three. No Englishman has scored more than one hundred against Sri Lanka.
Rather surprisingly, Dilhara Fernando has taken most wickets in England-Sri Lanka games. In 16 matches, he claimed 36 wickets at an average of 20.
James Anderson has taken most wickets in England-Lanka games. In 18 matches, he has 26 wickets at an average of 27.

Dilhara Fernando has the best bowling figures in England-Lanka games. He took 6 for 27 at Colombo on October 13, 2007.
