Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) senior member Rajeev Shukla has informed that said that the board will announce the name of the new coach of Team India before their tour to Sri Lanka which begins July 23.

“It was Anil Kumble’s decision not to continue as coach of Team India. We will announce the name of the coach before Team India’s tour to Sri Lanka,” Shukla was quoted as saying in an ANI report.

Team India will play three Tests, five ODIs and one T20I against Sri Lanka. The Test series will begin from July 26.

Kumble resigned after India’s shock 180-run defeat against Pakistan in the Champions Trophy final at the Oval on June 18. The names doing the rounds to replace him include Ravi Shastri, Venkatesh Prasad, Virender Sehwag, Tom Moody, Phil Simmons, Richard Pybus and Dodda Ganesh and Lalchand Rajput.

BCCI invited fresh applications, and deadline for the same has been extended to July 9. Kumble resigned after a spat with skipper Virat Kohli claiming his relationship with the latter was untenable, and hence it was better for him to move on.
