Northern Knights knocked out Mumbai Indians in an emphatic fashion to keep their winning streak in CLT20 Qualifiers. The defending champions Mumbai Indians as a result have been knocked out as they could only win one of out of three matches. Northern Knights’ win this evening has helped the Lahore Lions to qualify along with them for the main tournament.

It was a disastrous batting show from the Mumbai Indians. The Knights’ bowling was as usual superb with Tim Southee and Trent Boult swinging and seaming the ball to trouble the batsmen. The back up bowling from Scott Styris was outstanding. Styris went on to take 3 for 21 in his 4 overs while Southee too bagged three wickets.

Mumbai Indians were off to a slow start from which they could never quite recover. They slipped to 44 for 4 in the 10th over and subsequently to 89 for 7 in 17 overs when Skipper Kieron Pollard (31 from 24 balls) was bounced out by Southee.

A cameo of 24 from 12 balls by Shreyas Gopal and 20 from 8 balls by Lasith Malinga lifted the total to a competitive-looking 132 for 9. However, the target was cut short by a superb opening stand f 83 in 9.4 overs between Anton Devcich (39 from 34 balls) and Kane Williamson who went on to score an attractive 53 from 36 balls.

Northern Knights reached the target with 16 balls to spare in their 6-wicket win.

Toss: Northern Knights have won the toss and asked Mumbai Indians to bat first in the final Qualifying match at Raipur. Mumbai Indians need to win this match to go to the main tournament ahead of Lahore Lions. Both the teams remain unchanged.
