East Zone recovered to score 187 for 6 on a truncated first day’s play of its Duleep Trophy Semi-Final match against South Zone at the Dr. YSR ACA-VDCA Stadium in Visakhapatnam. The day’s play saw only 70 overs as it got delayed due to overnight rain and wet outfield conditions.

Saurabh TiwaryAsked to bat first after losing the toss, East Zone found itself in shambles at 66 for 6 in 37.4 overs. Not only were the wickets falling down in a heap, the runs were just hard to come by. However, South Zone lost the plot for the rest of the day as their bowlers were defied by a fighting stand of 121 for the 7th wicket between India discard Saurabh Tiwary and Orissa’s Basant Mohanty.

The left-handed Saurabh Tiwary remained unbeaten with 84 (from 162 balls with 10 fours and a six). His partner – Basant Mohanty scored a patient 51* (from 102 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes). For South Zone, Abimanyu Mithun and Stuart Binny did the damage taking two wickets each.
