IPL 2015 RR vs KXIP: The match between Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals at Ahmedabad goes to the wire and finished to tie as both teams scored 191 for 6 wickets.

Match Summary

Rajasthan Royals 191/6 (Rahane 74, Watson 45)

Kings XI Punjab 191/6 (Marsh 65, Miller 54)

The match between Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals at Ahmedabad goes to the wire and finished to tie as both teams scored 191 for 6 wickets. Young Axar Patel of Kings hold his nerve and dispatch Faulkner for boundary when his side needed five runs to win off the last legal delivery. It was the best possible result that could have happened because neither team deserved to loose after scoring more than 190 in T20. But as per the rules of Indian Premier League points has to be given to either one of the team. So the super over came into play.

Rajasthan Royals had some good memories of super over played last year against Kolkata Knight Riders. They had played two super overs before this one and had won both of them.

Chris Moris bowled the super over for the Royals and conceded 15 runs, in reply Royals were only able to score 6 runs. It was the first lost for the Royals this season.

Some interesting facts of this Super over -

  1. A wicket fell for the both sides on first delivery of the innings. David Miller got LBW on first ball of Chris Moris and Shane Watson was bowled by Mitchell Johnson first up.

  2. Bowlers of either team had bowled a NO ball.

  3. Maximum three batsman are allowed to bat in the super over for the either team and all six batsman (three from each team) got the chance to bat.

  4. All four wickets fell in the super over.

Earlier, it was opening pair of Rahane and Watson who gave Royals the steady start but the latter was stumped in the 12th over at the score of 95. 19 years old, Deepak Hooda, again played a cameo of 19 runs off 9 deliveries which included two massive sixes. After dismissal of Hooda, Smith didn’t trouble the scorer at all and gave Maxwell a simple catch at deep mid-wicket to get out on golden duck. At a point Royals were fumbling after Rahane was caught by Saha. But little firework late in the inning from Nair and Binny assured that Royals will reach 191 for 6 wicket.

In reply, Punjab didn’t get to a good start, Explosive opener Virender Sehwag was run out in the second over when the score was mere 3 runs. Getting his first game in this IPL on place of regular caption Baiely, Shaun Marsh made most use of the opportunity. He started counter attacking on the Royal and taking advantage of the fielding restrictions in the early overs. On the other hand, Marsh was not getting any proper support from his partners as Murli Vijay got run out in unlucky fashion and dry day for Maxwell again continued today. Returning in the team, South African southpaw David Miller, made the run chase interesting with his sixes. Miller shared 58 runs partnership with Marsh before Aussie was outclassed by the veteran spinner Pravin Tambe on a well-directed googly. Miller got out when Kings still needed 26 off 13 balls. But in the end Axar Patel and Johnson ensured a tie for their team.
