Having captained Rajasthan Royals for a major portion of IPL 2019, Ajinkya Rahane will be seen in a new role this year. He was traded to Delhi Capitals during the trade window. While Rahane remains an integral part of India’s Test team, he hasn’t played an ODI since February 2018, missing out on a World Cup spot last year.
Veteran Indian batsman Ajinkya Rahane has been a crucial part of India’s Test squad ever since making his debut in 2013. In 65 Tests, he has 4203 runs at an average of 42.88 with 11 hundreds. However, despite consistent performances in ODIs, Rahane has found himself out of favour over the last two years.
India rolled over a miserable West Indies for 100 in merely 26.5 overs on Sunday to clinch the opening Test in Antigua by an impressive margin of 318. After Ajinkya Rahane notched up his first Test century in two years, and Hanuma Vihari narrowly missed out on one, Jasprit Bumrah ran through West Indies to finish with exceptional figures of 5 for 7.
India recovered from a precarious 25 for 3 to post a fighting 203 for 6 at the end of Day 1 of the Antigua Test, which was hit by rain. Mayank Agarwal, Cheteshwar Pujara and skipper Virat Kohli all fell cheaply as Kemar Roach and Shannon Gabriel provided the vital early breakthroughs.
