Tamim Iqbal, one of the best batsmen in Bangladesh has been included in the Asia CUp Squad finally! The 22-year-old left-hander was earlier named by the Selectors in the squad but only to be excluded because of the interference of the Bangladesh Cricket Board President AHM Mustafa Kamal. However, the BCB President seems to have changed his mind and has re-instated the 22-year-old in the side.
Its learnt that Tamim Iqbal’s selection wasn’t cleared initially as the left-hander hasn’t been playing cricket for two months because of a typhoid attack. But with a training session with his team-mates, Tamim proved that he was 100% fit to play in the Asia Cup.
News is that the Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina could have played a role in the recall of Tamim Iqbal. According to a leading Bangladeshi daily, Akram Khan who had resigned as the Chief Selector was in touch with the Prime Minister although its not clear whether they spoke about the exclusion of Tamim Iqbal from the side. Ironically, Tamim Iqbal is also the nephew of Akram Khan, who is a former Bangladesh Captain.
