The 3-day warm-up match between Cricket Australia Chairman's XI and Indians ended in a draw today at the Manuka Oval in Canberra. Both the sides had a pre-agreement of batting for 30 overs each in their second innings.
India left the Chairman's XI with a target of 145 in 30 overs and the latter settled for a draw with a score of 100 for no loss. UsmanKhawaja helped himself with an unbeaten 56 (from 84 balls with 7 fours) while his opening partner Phil Hughes got 42* (from 97 balls with 4 fours). The most significant highlight of the final day was both Zaheer Khan and Ishant Sharma having a bowl to test themselves ahead of the Boxing Day Test. Both bowled within themselves and didn't quite put up any real effort in getting the ball through. It was a surprise to see Ishant bowl amidst reports that he was ruled out of this match with an ankle sprain.
The third day's play saw an overnight declaration at 215 for 7 by Chairman's XI and India got to bat straightaway. It was a second failure for VirenderSehwag, just lasting 8 balls and scoring as many runs. AjinkyaRahane who may not play atleast the Boxing Day Test was dismissed for a duck. GautamGambhir (42* from 98 balls with 3 fours) and Rohit Sharma (38* from 57 balls with 4 fours) spent some time in the middle before India declared at 90 for 2 in 30 overs.
