When Pakistan were dismissed for 99 by South Africa on the opening day of the second Test at Abu Dhabi, it was their 15th lowest score in Tests. Here’s a look at Pakistan’s 10 lowest scores in the five-day format of the game.

49 vs South Africa at Johannesburg: Pakistan’s lowest ever Test score was also registered against the same opponent, earlier this year, in February. Replying to South Africa’s modest first-innings score of 253, Pakistan crashed to 49 all out. Azhar Ali was the top scorer for Pakistan with 13 while Misbah-Ul-Haq (12) was the only other batsman to get into double figures. Dale Steyn grabbed six wickets in the innings and another five in Pakistan’s second as the hosts won by an innings and 211 runs.

53 and 59 vs Australia at Sharjah: This is a match Pakistan would desperately like to forget. Batting first in the game held in October 2002, they were rolled over for 59. Abdul Razzaq (21) was the lone batsman to get into double figures while Shane Warne grabbed four scalps. Australia replied with 310 courtesy Matthew Hayden’s 119. Pakistan did worse in their second innings, and got cleaned up for 53. Imran Nazir top scored with 16 and Warned picked four again.

62 vs Australia at Perth: On a bouncy pitch during the Test in November 1981, Pakistan capitulated to 62 in reply to Australia’s 180. Both openers got ducks in the match even as Sarfraz Nawaz top scored with 26. Dennis Lillee got a five-for while Terry Alderman bagged four in the innings. Australia won the Test by 286 runs.

72 vs England at Birmingham: In this August 2010 Test, Pakistan batted first and were bundled out for 72. Umar Amin’s 23 was the top score even as five batsmen registered ducks. James Anderson and Stuart Broad picked up four wickets each. England won the Test by nine wickets.

72 vs Australia at Perth: Pakistan were set a mammoth target of 564 in this Test played in December 2004. 72 was all that they managed. Yousuf Youhana’s 27 was the only score of any note. Glenn McGrath grabbed 8 for 24 in the innings.

74 vs England at Lord’s: In this Test held in August 2010, Pakistan succumbed to 74 chasing England’s first-innings total of 446. Salman Butt made 26 while Graeme Swann picked up four wickets and Steven Finn three. England won comfortably by an innings and 255 runs.

77 vs West Indies at Lahore: Having managed only 131 in their first innings, Pakistan were cleaned up for 77 in their second innings during the Test held in November 1986. Courtney Walsh grabbed four wickets and Tony Gray three in the innings as Windies won by an innings and 10 runs.

80 vs England at Nottingham: Another Test held during the 2010 series, another shocker from Pakistan. Chasing 435 to win, they succumbed to 80. Danish Kaneria’s 16 not out was the top score; Anderson picked up six.

87 vs England at Lord’s: Back in June 1954, Pakistan were bowled out for 87 in their first innings having batted for 83.5 overs. Hanif Mohammad top scored with 20 Brian Statham and Johnny Wardle picked up four wickets apiece. The match was a draw.
