A gutsy cameo by Kolkata's Dutch all-rounder Ryan ten Doeschate helped them qualify for the group stage even though Kolkata Knight Riders lost the match to Somerset by 11 runs at Hyderabad on Wednesday to end the qualifying event.

Chasing 167,KKR finished at 155 for eight in their allotted 20 overs. Kolkata made heavy weather of the of their chase to be reeling at four for 47 at one stage.

Ten Doeschate and YusufPathan added 40 runs for the fifth wicket, but the Somerset bowlers struck at regular intervals as KKR batsmen struggled on a slow pitch.

KKR innings got off to a disastrous start as MuraliKartik dismissed Knight Riders captain Jacques Kallis (1) early in the second over soon after ManvinderBisla (8) was run out in the same over.

ManojTiwary (27) was the man to come in the middle and provided stability to KKR's innings as he hit five boundaries in his confidant 23-ball knock and added 38 runs for the third wicket with Goswami as they tried to revive KKR innings.

Soon the duo departed as Max Waller struck twice in successive overs to dent Riders' run chase. The right-arm spinner clean bowled ManojTiwary (27) in the tenth over after removing ShreevatsGoswami (14) in his previous one.

Shakib Al Hasan then made useful 13 before being brilliantly caught by Van derMerwe in deep sqaure after ArulSuppiah scalped YusufPathan (12) to put Somerset in the driving seat.

In the end, with three runs required by KKR to qualify, Breet Lee kept his nerves to get the required runs.
