Sam Curran, whose 78 at Southampton on Day 1 enabled England to recover from a precarious 86 for 6, has admitted that he was disappointed at being dropped for the third Test.

“I was disappointed (at being dropped in Nottingham), but at the same time took it as a positive. You can’t really leave someone out who’s got a hundred (Chris Woakes at Lord’s). It’s just a great squad at the minute, and everyone is fighting for their places,” he added.

Curran, who was the game changer at Edgbaston, added, he is not going to change his game. “I’m not going to change the way I play it’s just who I am. I was unlucky obviously last week to miss out. But I love being around the squad.

“There are some great names in the team, and I’m learning so much,” Curran added at the end of the first day’s play.

Curran made a crucial fifty and also picked up a five-for as England fought back ton the first Test. He was then dropped for the third Test.
