Sri Lanka has today announced a 15-man squad led by Mahela Jayawardene for the ICC World T20 2012. The host nation of the World T20 Tournament has given a recall to mystery spinner Ajantha Mendis, who makes a national comeback after recovering from a back injury.

The Lankans have surprisingly named a couple of uncapped players in the 18-year-old off-spinner Akila Dananjaya and 23-year-old batsman Dilshan Munaweera. Akila Dananjaya is currently playing for the Wayamba United in the Sri Lankan Premier League where he has impressed none other than the National Captain Mahela Jayawardene. On the other hand, Dilshan Munaweera, who is playing for Uva Next in the ongoing SLPL has out of nowhere been selected in the Sri Lankan Squad as he was not even part of the 30-man probables!

Sri Lanka have axed batsmen Upul Tharanga and Chamara Kapugedera. Meanwhile the inclusion of Kumar Sangakkara and Nuwan Kulasekara is subject to their recovery in time for the tournament. Sangakkara has been resting with a fractured finger sustained during the Test Series against Pakistan. In the same series, Nuwan Kulasekara had picked up a groin injury.

The hosts are placed in Group C along with South Africa and Zimbabwe. Sri Lanka will kick start the ICC World T20 2012 against Zimbabwe at Hambantota on September 18th.

Sri Lanka Squad for ICC World T20 2012: Mahela Jayawardene (Captain), Angelo Mathews (Vice-Captain), Kumar Sangakkara (Wicket Keeper), Tillakaratne Dilshan, Lahiru Thirimanne, Jeevan Mendis, Dilshan Munaweera, Thisara Perera, Lasith Malinga, Nuwan Kulasekara, Rangana Herath, Ajantha Mendis, Dinesh Chandimal, Shaminda Eranga and Akila Dhanajaya
