Former India Skipper Mohammad Azharuddin is all set to become the Coach of the Jammu & Kashmir Ranji Team according to reports in a section of the media. Dr Farooq Abdullah, who is the President of the State’s Cricket Association, has revealed that the stylish Hyderabadi ex-cricketer has agreed to coach J&K this season.

Azharuddin, who is also a Member of Parliament, has been away from Cricket following a life ban on him by the BCCI in the match-fixing scandal of the 90s. Azhar’s career was cut short with 99 Tests to his name because of the BCCI ban. However, the ban on Azharuddin was judged as illegal by the Andhra Pradesh High Court last year.

The Hyderabadi was considered to be India’s second best batsman after Sachin Tendulkar in his playing days. Azhar was also one of the most successful Captains for India.

The 50-year-old Azharuddin is likely to take over the coaching reigns from another former India great Bishan Singh Bedi.
