As the Indian Premier League 8 heads towards the playoff stage, we look at players who have lit up the tournament with their excellent performances, and some big names who haven’t quite lived up to the expectations.

Top performers

Ajinkya Rahane: The Rajasthan Royals opener is the Orange Cap holder. In 11 matches, he has 438 runs to his name at a strike rate of 130.7, with four half-centuries, an average of 54.75 and a highest of 91. He has been one of the reasons Rajasthan have been extremely successful in this edition.

David Warner: The Surnisers captain is close on the heels of Rahane. In 11 matches, he has 423 runs to his name at a strike rate of 156.6 with as may as five fifties. Warner is averaging 38.4 with a best of 91.

Chris Gayle: The left-hander from Bangalore has found his groove again. In 8 matches, he has smashed 357 runs at a strike rate of 160 with one hundred and two fifties. He’s averaging 51 with a best of 117.

Dwayne Bravo: The CSK all-rounder has been in excellent form with the ball. In 11 matches, he has 17 wickets at 12.4 and an economy rate of 7.5. He’s averaging 15.6 with the ball.

Ashish Nehra: The CSK fast bowler also has 17 wickets at a strike rate of 15, and an economy rate of 7.1. He’s averaging exactly 18.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar: The Surnisers medium pacer too has 17 scalps at a strike rate of 15, and economy rate of 7.4. He has an average of 18.7

Mitchell Starc: The left-armer has been brilliant for Bangalore with the ball. He has claimed 15 wickets in 7 games at an unbelievable strike rate of 8.8. His economy rate also has been brilliant at 5.4 while he has averaged a miserly 8.

Flop performers

Yuvraj Singh: A lot was expected of him from Delhi Daredevils. He has managed 205 runs at a disappointing strike rate of 117. With two half-centuries to his name, he has averaged only 18.6.

Glenn Maxwell: The big hitter from Punjab has been a massive disappointment. In 8 matches, he has totalled only 118 runs at a strike rate of 143, and an average of 14.7. He hasn’t crossed the fifty mark even once.

Dinesh Karthik: He too has been a big flop for Bangalore. In 10 matches, he has only managed 101 runs at a strike rate of 123, and an average of 14.4. His highest this series is merely 27.

Murali Vijay: The Punjab opener has failed to impress. In 10 games, he has 227 runs at a disappointing strike rate of 108. He’s averaging 22.7 with a best of 39.

Angelo Mathews: The Delhi all-rounder has managed only 143 runs at a strike rate of 141.5. He has averaged 23.8 with a best of 28.
