Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka in first T20 by 29 runs to take 1-0 lead in the series. Batting first, Pakistan scored 175 for 5 and in reply Sri Lanka could only manage 146 runs which mean visitors taste the victory of 29 runs.

Chasing a score of 175 runs, Sri Lanka had a terrible start of their inning. Both of their openers were dismissed inside two overs and only 13 runs on the board. Kusal Perera was caught by Afridi by Anwar Ali and Dishan was caught behind off Tanvir. Kithuruwan Vithanage was cleaned up by Tanvir in his next over and Sri Lanka was left at 19 for 3. Angelo Mathews and Dhananjaya de Silva did prevent further damage for some time but the required rate pressure was too much. They added 36 runs off 41 balls for the fourth wicket which added more pressure on the upcoming batsmen. Imad Wasim bowled Mathews on last ball of tenth over to left Sri Lanka at 55 for 4. Milinda Siriwardana and Chamara Kapugedera played counter attacking inning but the top-order failure overrode on the home team. Both Siriwardana and Kapugedra hit some lusty blow and scored 35 and 31 respectively. At last, Sri Lanka were restricted on 146 for 7 in 20 overs.

Sohail Tanvir was the pick of the bowler for Pakistan with 3-29. Anwar Ali picked up 2 wickets, Imad Wasim and Malik got one wicket each.

Earlier in the day, Pakistan’s skipper Shahid Afridi won the toss and elected to bat first. The star for Pakistan in the series against Zimbabwe, Mukhtar Ahmed failed here to make any contribution and was dismissed in the second over off Mathews for just 2. Ahmed Shehzad was looking in fluent touch and scored 46-runs off 38-balls which included four boundaries. The main partnership for Pakistan was for the fourth wicket between Shoaib Malik and Umar Akmal of 81-runs. Both batsmen scored 46 runs each where Malik hit four boundaries and Akmal slashed three boundaries and three sixes. This partnership also ensured that Pakistan will get to an above par score of 175 runs in the 20 overs.

Thisara Perera took two wickets for Sri Lanka. Binura Fernando, Mathews and Malinga got a wicket each. Malinga was too much expensive, conceded 46 runs in his four overs.
