Delhi Daredevils who only tasted their first win of IPL 6 beating Mumbai Indians the other night are back to their losing ways. Tonight, the Daredevils crashed to their seventh defeat in 8 matches after losing out to the Kings XI Punjab at the Feroz Shah Kotla. It was another disastrous batting show from the Daredevils that was instrumental in their defeat. Kings XI Punjab have now collected their fourth win in seven matches.
Asked to bat first after losing the toss, Delhi lost their Skipper Mahela Jayawardene in the first over itself and in matter of few minutes lost two more wickets including that of Virender Sehwag (23 from 21 balls) who got caught driving early off Harmeet Singh in the 7th over. David Warner who was demoted at no.4 was keeping one end intact but was losing partners at the other end in quick time.
Warner himself departed to the dug out in the 18th over when he was cleaned up by a Praveen Kumar yorker. The Australian left-hander scored 40 from 36 balls with 4 fours and a six. Delhi Daredevils finished with a below par total of 120 for 7 with medium pacer Harmeet Singh taking 3 for 24 and Praveen Kumar taking 2 for 29. David Hussey with his part-time off breaks bowled out his 4 overs for just 14 runs.
Despite losing Gilchrist in the very first over, Kings XI Punjab got off to a breezy start chasing 121 but lost the momentum because of a couple of wickets. Luke Pomerbasch got out after a promising 18 from 10 balls when he missed a slog off Roelof van der Merwe while Mandeep Singh who was batting nicely on 24 from 15 balls got run out to leave Kings XI at 50 for 3 in the 5th over.
David Miller who batted brilliantly in Kings XI’s previous game steered them to victory with a responsible knock of 34* from 39 balls. Experienced David Hussey chipped in with 20 in a crucial stand of 40 with Miller. For Delhi, van der Merwe bowled exceptionally well getting the ball to turn away in a neat spell of 4-1-17-1.
