England’s star batsman Kevin Pietersen is all set to mark his international comeback on Thursday at The Oval as the hosts take on New Zealand in the Second T20I. The match coincides with Pietersen’s 33rd birthday and it is an international comeback for the swashbuckling batsman since March. Pietersen has been out of action for sometime because of a knee injury which forced him out of the IPL.

The 33-year-old made his comeback to competitive cricket with a bang scoring an unbeaten 177 for Surrey against Yorkshire four days ago at Headingley. One of the middle order batsmen will make way for Pietersen on Thursday. While this T20I against New Zealand could be insignificant, the larger picture for Kevin Pietersen and England is the prestigious Ashes which begins in July.
