England have named two squads for ODI and T20I Series against Pakistan to be played in the UAE. The ODI side will be captained by opening batsman Alastair Cook while all-rounder Stuart Broad will lead England in the three T20Is.
Having been whitewashed 0-3, England will hope for some reprieve in the 4-ODI Series that begins on the 13th. As a warm-up for the ODI Series, England play their own England Lions in a 50-over contest at Abu Dhabi.
The English Selectors believe that they have selected squads that have a blend of experience and youth keeping in mind that playing Pakistan is not that easy but at the same time its important to give a run to the new young players.
The biggest inclusion for England is the comeback of Tim Bresnan after recovering from an elbow injury which kept him out of the 3-Test Series. Apart from him, England have included 20-year-old left arm spinner Danny Briggs of Hampshire. There is also a place for 21-year-old Wicket Keeper Batsman Jos Buttler in the ODI Side. Butler has already tasted international cricket playing 4 T20Is till date.
Meanwhile, the axe following England’s humiliating whitewash in the Test Series has fallen on Ian Bell who has been omitted from the two squads announced today. Kevin Pietersen and Eoin Morgan have been retained despite his failures in the Test Series.
