The auction for the 2016 Indian Premier League season was held at Bangalore on Saturday. Here’s a closer look at the Top 10 buys at the event.

Shane Watson: The veteran Aussie all-rounder has piped some of the Indian superstars. He was the highest buy at the auction with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) purchasing him for Rs 9.5 crore. Watson hasn’t been a constant feature in the Aussie side in recent years, but his smashing hundred in the Sydney T20 has definitely tilted the scales for him. His overall skills are perfect for the IPL.

Pawan Negi: A day after being picked in the Indian squad for the World T20, Negi had another big reason to celebrate as he was chosen by the Delhi Daredevils for a whopping Rs 8.5 crore. Negi is a left-arm spinner, who can also get the big hits with the bat later in the innings.

Yuvraj Singh: The smashing Indian batsman, who was purchased by Delhi Daredevils for Rs 16 crore last year, remains among the top buys this year as well, but at a much reduced price. He has still commanded a decent Rs 7 crore, and has been bought by Surisers Hyderabad.

Christopher Morris: The big-hitting South African all-rounder was also sold for the same price as Yuvraj. In fact, Morris has replaced Yuvraj at Delhi Daredevils, for Rs 7 crore. "Unbelievably grateful! Very excited to be part of @DelhiDaredevils #humbled," Morris tweeted.

Mohit Sharma: The Indian medium pacer, who was one of the heroes for the team, during the 2015 World Cup, has been purchased by Kings XI Punjab for Rs 6.5 crore. Mohit had a lot of success playing for Chennai Super Kings, and would be looking for replicate the same for KXIP.

Ashish Nehra: The veteran left-arm seamer, who is back in the Indian T20 squad, has been purchased by Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs 5.5 crore. Like Mohit, he too has tasted success with CSK.

Mitchell Marsh: On the day Marsh led Australia to victory in the second ODI against the Kiwis, the all-rounder was purchased by Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS) for Rs 4.8 crore. He will be elated to feature among the top ten buys at the auction this year.

Murugan Ashwin: The leg-spinner from Tamil Nadu was a surprise pick, being purchased by Pune for a massive Rs 4.5 crore. It remains to be seen whether Ashwin will prove to be a boon for RPS, like the other Ashwin has been for CSK.

Sanju Samson: The Kerala wicket-keeper batsman, who has tasted success with Rajasthan Royals, has been lapped up by Delhi Daredevils for Rs 4.2 crore. Samson remains among India’s bright, upcoming talents.

Carlos Brathwaite: In a somewhat surprising move, Delhi Daredevils also picked the West Indian batsman for the same price as Samson. It remains to be seen how effective the decision turns out to be.
