Opener Lendl Simmons registered the first century of IPL 7 as Mumbai Indians eased to a 7-wicket win with an over to spare over tournament favourites Kings XI Punjab at Mohali. Mumbai Indians with this defeat managed to stay alive in the competition for now. Kings XI Punjab are still looking good despite the defeat.

Kings XI Punjab started off with a bang but only to fizzle out to 156 for 8. Wicket went down at the wrong time for the hosts and it came to a stage in the second half of their innings that Skipper George Bailey had to play the anchor role instead of going for the kill. Bailey scored 39 from 30 balls to rescue his side from an otherwise shaky position of 116 for 6 in 16.1 overs.

Praveen Kumar bowled well for Mumbai Indians giving away just the 20 runs off his 4 overs. Jasprit Bumrah with 2 for 31 in 4 overs and leg spinner Shreyas Gopal with 4-0-32-2 also did their bit in pegging back Kings XI. Gopal also took the prized wicket of Glenn Maxwell who got out cheaply for 2.

The run chase for Mumbai Indians was sealed quite early by the blazing knock from Lendl Simmons who brought up his fifty in just 27 balls. Simmons being the opener had plenty of time to convert into three figures which he did in 61 balls. The West Indian carried his bat through while striking 14 fours and 2 sixes.

Toss and Teams: Mumbai Indians have won the toss and opted to field against hosts Kings XI Punjab in Match 48 of IPL 7 at the PCA Stadium in Mohali. Kings XI make one change with Shaun Marsh coming in for David Miller. Mumbai Indians make one change as well with Praveen Kumar replacing the sick Harbhajan Singh.
