The ODI series started at a miserable note for Sri Lanka. Their bowlers had no answers to the sensational limited overs batting displayed by the Kiwi batsmen.

On comeback, opener Martin Guptill struck a breezy 138. The two pillars of their batting lineup, Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor scored half-centuries while another comeback player all-rounded Jimmy Neesham cracked 47 from just 13 balls which also included five sixes in one over. He later came back with the ball to pick up two vital wickets as well.

No Sri Lankan bowler looked effective as all went for plenty of runs. Skipper Lasith Malinga gave away 78 runs in his 10 overs while Thisara Perera and Nuwan Pradeep conceded 80 and 72 runs respectively.

With the bat, Niroshan Dickwella, Danushka Gunathilaka and Kusal Perera laid a solid foundation for the team but if Sri Lanka were to chase the total, they needed to play a bit more attackinly than they did. This, in turn, created a lot of pressure on the lower middle and the lower order which collapsed.

No different result from that in the first ODI is expected in the second game. Sri Lanka's batting can still score 20-30 runs more but their bowlers look insipid and do not seem to know where the next wicket will come from.

Before looking at the starting line-ups of both teams, you might want to look at what other online cricket betting sites have to offer. Let's have a look at the probable playing XI of both teams.
