India and Sri Lanka have faced each other in numerous finals over the years, but this is the first time they will be meeting in a World T20 final. The only time India made a WT20 final earlier, they beat Pakistan in 2007. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, went down to Pakistan and West Indies in 2009 and 2012 respectively. They would be keen to capture their first World T20 crown.

If India win the ICC World T20 final on Sunday, Dhoni will become the first captain to lead his side to two World T20 victories. A triumph would also mean that, under him, India would have lifted three ICC titles. They have already won the World Cup (2011) and the Champions Trophy (2013).

Overall, India and Sri Lanka have faced each other in five T20 internationals. Of them, India have won three while Lanka have been victorious in two. The last T20 meeting between the two teams was in Pallekele in August 2012, which India won by 39 runs. Kohli top scored with 68 while Irfan Pathan was the man of the match with three wickets.

The highest total for Sri Lanka against India in a T20 game is 215 for 5, which they made at Nagpur in December 2009. In the very next clash between the two teams at Mohali, India registered their best T20 total against the Lankans. They made 211 for 4, chasing 207.

Kumar Sangakkara has scored the most runs in T20 clashes between India and Sri Lanka. He has 183 runs to his credit from three matches. India’s Suresh Raina is next on the list with 162 runs from 5 matches.

Sangakkara also holds the record for the highest individual score in an India-Lanka contest. He smashed 78 from 37 balls at Nagpur in December 2009. Virat Kohli is the second best on the list. He made 68 from 48 balls at Pallekele in August 2012.

Yuvraj Singh has hit the most sixes in a T20 match between the two sides. He cleared the fence on five occasions during his unbeaten 60 off 25 balls at Mohali in December 2009

Ashok Dinda and Yusuf Pathan, rather surprisingly, have taken most wickets in India-Lanka clashes. While Dinda has claimed five wickets from two matches averaging 10, Pathan has claimed the same number of wickets from four games averaging 26.

Dinda also holds the record for the best figures in an innings. He picked up 4 for 19 at Pallekele in August 2012. As far as Lanka are concerned, the record for the best figures in an innings is in the name of Malinga Bandara. He claimed 3 for 32 at Colombo in February 2009.

The highest partnership in an India-Lanka match is 81 between Jayasuriya and Sangakkara at Mohali in December 2009. For India, MS Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh added 80 in the same match.
