Australia made one change after its 80-run loss in Port Elizabeth last weekend, recalling batsman Shaun Marsh for legspinningallrounder Steven Smith for the crunch game.
Shane Watson also made the team after struggling with back spasms in the last match.
Australia is chasing a first ODI series win in South Africa since 2002, although the tourists have a strong record at Durban where they have won the last three one-dayers between the teams at Kingsmead.
