Lokesh Rahul: He made 199 from 311 balls against England at Chennai on Sunday. Rahul hit 16 fours and three sixes during his stay at the crease. India ended day 3 at 391 for 4 in response to England’s first innings score of 477. It remains to be seen whether the knock is good enough to claim victory in the Test.

Mohammad Azharuddin: The former Indian skipper was lbw to Ravi Ratnayeke for 199 against Sri Lanka at Kanpur in December 1986. Azhar batted for over 500 minutes and hit 16 fours and a six. The match ended in a draw.

Steven Smith: The Aussie made 199 against West Indies at Jamaica in June 2015. He was lbw to Jerome Taylor one short of a double hundred. Smith faced 361 balls and hit 21 fours and 2 sixes. Australia went on to win the Test by 277 runs.

Kumar Sangakkara: The Sri Lankan legend was unbeaten on 199 against Pakistan at Galle in June 2012 as the hosts batted first. Last man Nuwan Pradeep was bowled by Mohammad Hafeez for 0, leaving Sangakkara stranded on 199. He faced 387 deliveries and hit 18 fours and 2 sixes. Sri Lanka won the Test by 209 runs.

Ian Bell: The Englishman was caught and bowled for 199 by Paul Harris, against South Africa at Lord’s in July 2008. Bell faced 336 balls and hit 20 fours and a six as England batted first. The match was drawn.

Younis Khan: He was run out by Harbhajan Singh for 199 against India at Lahore in January 2006. Pakistan batting first posted 679. Khan faced 336 balls and hit 26 fours. India responded with an opening stand of 410 between Dravid and Sehwag as the match was drawn.

Andy Flower: He was unbeaten on 199 under toughest of circumstances. Zimbabwe were following on against South Africa at Harare in September 2001. He was left stranded on 199 from 470 balls in Zimbabwe’s follow-on score of 391. South Africa won the Test by nine wickets.

Steve Waugh: He was dismissed for 199 against West Indies at Barbados in March 1999. Waugh was lbw to Nehemiah Perry having faced 376 balls, with 20 fours and a six. Brian Lara’s special helped West Indies to an incredible one-wicket win.

Sanath Jayasuriya: He was cleaned bowled for 199 by Abey Kuruvilla against India at Colombo in August 1997. The knock came in the second innings, in which he faced 226 balls with 21 fours and two sixes. The high-scoring Test was drawn.

Matthew Elliot: The former Aussie opener was clean bowled for 199 by Darren Gough against England at Leeds in July 1997. He faced 351 balls and hit 26 fours and three sixes. Australia went on to clinch the Test by an innings and 61 runs.

Mudassar Nazar: The Pakistani legend was the first batsman to be dismissed for 199. He made the score against India at Faisalabad in October 1984, as Pakistan responded to India’s 500. He faced 408 balls and hit 24 fours in a high-scoring draw.
