Sri Lanka continue to struggle on their South Africa tour, this time struggling at 187 for 5 in the Boxing Day Test at Kingsmead in Durban. The visitors electing to bat first after winning the toss have been laid low by newcomer Marchant de Lange who has picked up three wickets on debut. The 21-year-old express fast bowler took the wickets of Paranavitana (12), Sangakkara (0) and Angelo Mathews (30).
The top scorer for the visitors so far has been Skipper Tillakaratne Dilshan who made 47 from 69 balls with 6 fours. There was a historic moment for the Lankans today as former Skipper Mahela Jayawardene became the first from his country to cross 10,000 runs in Test Cricket. Mahela could score only an entertaining 31 which included a six before falling to Morne Morkel.
At the crease are Samaraweera (36*) and debutant Dinesh Chandimal (20*) with Sri Lanka at 187 for 5 in 52 overs. Vernon Philander who has picked up four consecutive five-wicket hauls in Test matches has opted out of the match because of a knee injury and in his place comes the tearaway quick Marchant de Lange.
