The second day’s play at MCG saw the Indian bowlers without much fuss cleaning up the Aussie lower order. Zaheer Khan added two more wickets and Ashwin too did the same as the Aussies folded to 333 in their first innings. The hosts could only collect 56 runs this morning losing four wickets in 21 overs.

India then batted pretty well despite some fiery Australian fast bowling and ended the second day’s play losing only three wickets. All in all, seven wickets fell down on Day 2 and here are the highlights of the action :

Australia 1st Innings

Over 90.6 Z Khan to BJ Haddin, CAUGHT, Haddin goes through with a square drive looking at a pitched up delivery slightly outside off. This is an away swinger and it takes a thick edge which is smartly caught low by Sehwag at gully. The Umpire checks for a noball and Zaheer had it just right with some part of the foot behind the crease. BJ Haddin c Sehwag b Zaheer Khan 27 (70b 1x4 0x6) Australia : 286/7 (91.0 Overs)

Over 96.1 Z Khan to PM Siddle, CAUGHT, Siddle will not get to his fifty as its another away going delivery from Zak that produces the wicket! It was a back of length delivery that pitched on middle and moving away and Siddle on 41 was forced to edge it behind to MSD! PM Siddle c Dhoni b Zaheer Khan 41 (99b 4x4 0x6) Australia 291/8 (96.1 Overs)

Over 105.4 R Ashwin to BJ Hilfenhaus, CAUGHT, heaves a teasing flighted off break from outside off and can only sky it towards deep mid on where Kohli takes an easy catch. BW Hilfenhaus c Kohli b Ashwin 19 (32b 3x4 0x6) Australia 318/9 (105.4 Overs)

Over 109.6 R Ashwin to Nathan Lyon, BOWLED HIM, Lyons plants his frontfoot a long way across his stumps for a sweep shot and misses a full length flat delivery which bowls him round the sticks! India will have a little over 10 minutes to bat before lunch! NM Lyon b Ashwin 6 (11b 1x4 0x6) Australia 333/10 (109.6 Overs)

India 1st Innings

Over 7.5 BJ Hilfenhaus to G Gambhir, CAUGHT, Gambhir fishes at an away going delivery on the backfoot, well away from his body and gets a straightforward edge to the keeper! The ball had pitched around middle, very short and angling away from over the sticks, Gambhir should have left it alone. G Gambhir c Haddin b Hilfenhaus 3 (23b 0x4 0x6) India 22/1 (7.5 Overs)

Over 28.2 JL Pattinson to V Sehwag, BOWLED HIM, Sehwag departs six minutes to go before Tea! Sehwag was looking to smash it away on the rise, was playing well away from his body and the length ball jagged back to force a fatal inside edge which crashes onto the stumps! V Sehwag b Pattinson 67 (83b 7x4 0x6) India 97/2 (28.2 Overs)

Over 64.3 PM Siddle to SR Tendulkar, BOWLED HIM, oh dear once again Tendulkar will have to wait for his so-called 100th ton! He is late in coming forward to drive the length ball through the line and Siddle has got this delivery to slip through with an inswing to take an inside edge and hit the off stump through the bat pad gate! And yes, Siddle has got his footing right! Well slow motion replays suggest that the ball had missed the inside edge and nicely cut back to go through the gate. SR Tendulkar b Siddle 73 (98b 8x4 1x6) India 214/3 (64.3 Overs)
