Hosts England won the 1st ODI against Pakistan at Chester-le-Street by 24 runs in a rain-curtailed contest of 41 overs. Asked to bat first by Shahid Afridi, England put up a massive total of 274 for 6 thanks to Wicket Keeper cum Opening batsman - Steve Davies. The left hander cracked 87 from just 67 balls with 13 fours to get the Man of the Match while Jonathan Trott with 69 (from 78 balls) and Ravi Bopara with an unbeaten came of 35 from 27 balls played their part. Saeed Ajmal bowled well for Pakistan taking 4 for 58.

Pakistan were slow in the run chase and were restricted to 250 for 9 in the 41 overs. Kamran Akmal was the top scorer with 53.
