AUSTRALIA'S baffling cricket selection policies have continued with the announcement of the Test squad to tour Sri Lanka

Last month the panel gave contracts to spinners Nathan Hauritz, Jason Krejza and all-rounder Steve Smith. The three have missed selection in the squad.

Michael Beer, who played the last Test against England but missed out on a Cricket Australia contract, has won a spot in the 15-man squad.
In a bizarre twist the same selectors announced that Beer would be joined in Sri Lanka by another uncontracted spinner in South Australia-based Nathan Lyon.
The Australian revealed recently that Doug Bollinger was on the outer with the selectors as he ranked 25th in the contract list and was not given a Test ranking. Predictably he has missed out.
In an exciting development young Victorian paceman James Pattinson will go.
In an continuation of the curious policies of the selection panel Trent Copeland has also been picked - he was not given a contract.
Ben Hilfenhaus, who was given a contract, missed out on selection also, apparently for his poor Ashes.
Chairman of the selection panel Andrew Hilditch explained the decisions in a press release.

Phillip Hughes and Shane Watson will again open the batting in what we hope will become a very successful opening partnership for Australia,” he said
