The Man of the Match award has gone to Ravindra Jadeja. Yes a superb bowling show from the youngster, 10-2-29-2. He got the big scalps of Gibbs and AB de Villiers. Interesting that the dew didn't cause much of a concern and the likes of Jadeja and Pathan could bowl in a few quiet overs. The second match of this series is on the 24th at Gwalior.
South Africa well slipped into a bad position at 142 for 5. Only Kallis was staying there and the match was sealed off I thought and the rest of the overs only a formality. But the twist came in from Parnell and Steyn, a few lusty blows from them and SA were no longer reducing the margin of victory. They were infact into a great position to cause an upset and break hearts! Perhaps the lack of pace from Praveen Kumar saved them in the end!
First things first, I never expected India to come up with a near 300-total. They just lost too many wickets and none of the batsmen really kicked in to score the 80s or 100s. The highest score was just 58 coming in from Raina.
So tight finish at Jaipur, India just managing to hold on to a 1-run win. Got to tell that it was just too tight for comfort, the crowd would have been really angry had India lost the match, that's for sure. Infact the match was almost a tie but for Sreesanth and Dhoni keeping their cool.
India win by 1 run to lead the 3-ODI Series 1-0.
Over 49.6: Run Out at the Striker's end! P Kumar to Wayne Parnell, pitched up delivery, makes room and slashes it to thirdman, they get a single and try for the desperate second. Sreesanth releases a wide throw on the bounce to Dhoni who has enough time to move in and disturb the stumps. Parnell is way short of his crease!
Over 49.6: Wide Ball. P Kumar to Wayne Parnell, pitched up delivery, beats him with a wide yorker outside off. The Umpire has given that a wide! So SA need 3 runs to win from the last ball.
Over 49.5: Three runs. P Kumar to Charl Langeveldt, bangs it short, pulls it away towards square fine leg and the diving fielder Tendulkar manages to just pull the ball inside the ropes. 4 runs to win from the last ball.
Over 49.5: Boundary! P Kumar to Charl Langeveldt, bangs it short, pulls it away towards square fine leg and the diving fielder Tendulkar manages to just pull the ball inside the ropes. 4 runs to win from the last ball.
Over 49.4: Single. P Kumar to Wayne Parnell, short of length delivery, makes room and inside edges it towards short fine leg for a single. 7 from 2
Over 49.3: Single. P Kumar to Charl Langeveldt, short of length delivery, gets an inside edge towards backward squareleg for a single. 8 from 3
Over 49.2: Bowled him! P Kumar to D Steyn, short of length delivery, gives him the charge and heaves across but only to have his leg stump uprooted by the slower leg cutter. SA need 9 more runs to win from 4 balls.
Over 49.1: Single. P Kumar to Wayne Parnell, short of length delivery, pushes it to covers for a single. 9 from 5.
End of Over 49
Over 48.6: No runs. Ashish Nehra to D Steyn, full toss, heaves across the line and misses a wide one outside off. SA need 10 runs to win from the last over.
Over 48.5: Sixer! Ashish Nehra to D Steyn, short of length delivery, swings his arms across cleanly and the ball sails over Tendulkar for a six.
Over 48.4: Two runs. Ashish Nehra to D Steyn, pitched up delivery, swings it across in the gap towards wide mid wicket and Nayar's dive saves a certain boundary and keeps it down for two. 16 from 8.
Over 48.3: Single. Ashish Nehra to Wayne Parnell, half volley, drives it firmly to covers and will get a single. 18 from 9.
Over 48.2: Sixer! Ashish Nehra to Wayne Parnell, pitched up delivery, makes room and lofts it cleanly over mid off for a six! 19 from 10.
